Spring Semester 2010 is just around the corner.

The William F. Bethune Center for Visual Arts is on schedule and will fill with art and design students this January. Studio spaces include printmaking, painting, drawing, and a digital photo studio and Mac Lab. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months.

Methodist University's Department of Art offers courses of study leading
to the following degrees:

the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with a concentration in:
ceramic sculpture, painting, or printmaking, and
a B.A. licensure for teaching art in the public schools.

Recently added: the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.)
with a concentration in: graphic design.

AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and NASAD (National Association
of Schools of Art and Design) both promote the Bachelor of Fine Arts as the preferred degree for students who want to enter professional arts fields.

NASAD states, "Liberal arts programs are the most common undergraduate degree in the United States. They place greater emphasis on general
education and lesser emphasis on studio design and visual arts studies
than professional degree programs. Normally, 30-45% of the total credits
are in art and design, with the remainder being course work across a range
of fields. Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science are the usual degree titles ...

AIGA and NASAD do not recognize a four-year liberal arts degree in art or
design as adequate preparation for entry as a graphic design professional."
