Painting, ceramic sculpture, printmaking, graphic design

The William F. Bethune Center for Visual Arts is complete and filling quickly with the art and design students' plethora of work. Studio spaces in the Bethune Center include printmaking, painting, drawing, a darkroom and a digital photo studio and Mac Lab. MU's art history classroom and the David McCune International Art Gallery complete the new facility.

Methodist University's Department of Art offers courses of study leading
to the following degrees:

the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with a concentration in:
ceramic sculpture, painting, or printmaking, and
a B.A. licensure for teaching art in the public schools.

the Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree is also offered
with a concentration in: graphic design.

AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) and NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) both promote the Bachelor of Fine Arts as the preferred degree for students who want to enter professional arts fields.

NASAD states, "Liberal arts programs are the most common undergraduate degree in the United States. They place greater emphasis on general education and lesser emphasis on studio design and visual arts studies than professional degree programs. Normally, 30-45% of the total credits are in art and design, with the remainder being course work across a range of fields.

Methodist University has opted for the B.F.A. program for the graphic design major to meet this preference of the AIGA and NASAD.
