Dr. Sid Gautam to Retire After 44 Years of Service to the University
For the 35th time, The Center for Entrepreneurship hosted the annual Stock Market Symposium and recognized local small business owners for their contributions to the community and the economy. For Dr. Sid Gautam, Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, it was his last symposium as Director. Dr. Gautam will retire after serving as Director of the center since its founding in 1973.

Center for Entrepreneurship Honors Local Business People
The Center for Entrepreneurship awarded five business men and women with distinguished honors at the 35th annual Stock Market Symposium. The event also featured an address by Mark Keller, CEO and Chief Investment Officer for Confluence Investment Management. The Symposium is one of several community events hosted by the Center for Entrepreneurship.

Seniors Ranked 4th in Global Competition
One student team in Michael Wayland's Business Policy and Strategy class placed in the all time top 20 in the world, in the business strategy simulation called MikesBikes. In this simulation, student teams from around the world run bicycle manufacturing companies. The students are either undergraduate seniors or first year MBA’s. They draw on their broad knowledge of business to make all the necessary decisions to compete against other bicycle firms. Each week in the simulation is equal to one year in the real world.

Accounting Professor Honored by University
Dr. Pamela Strickland, Associate Professor of Accounting, has been named the Methodist University Academic Advisor of the Year. This award is given annually at the Awards Convocation to a faculty member who has demonstrated outstanding service to students through excellence in academic advising. Students, faculty, and staff may nominate a member of the faculty for the award. We hope that you will join the Reeves School of Business in congratulating Dr. Strickland for this recognition. SIFE Team Competes at Charlotte Regional
The Reeves School of Business chapter of SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) joined other Southeast region college and university teams in Charlotte, NC on March 27th, for the SIFE Regional Competition. The 2012 presentation team included Manqoba Shabangu, Serge Iraguha, Phila Sifundza, Caleb Williams, Bei Bei Zhou, and the team advisor, Sam Walton Fellow, Michael Wayland.

Spend Spring Break Giving Back
For the fourth consecutive year, Reeves
School of Business students joined others from across campus to bring relief to
a hurricane ravaged region of the world. 20 students joined the inter-faith
Campus Ministries Work Team on this year’s trip to Eleuthera Island, Bahamas.
Working with a local organization, Bahamas Methodist Habitat, the team provided
home repair and relief to low-income families. The beautiful location often
masks the need on the island, where a high cost of living and low wages for many
native Bahamians cause poverty.

MU Resort Management Student Club Earns National Recognition
The Student Chapter of Club Managers Association of America received
official Student Club Chapter Status on February 25, at a ceremony held
during the CMAA World Conference in New Orleans, LA. This makes Methodist
University and the Reeves School of Business only the fourth school in
the Carolinas to receive this recognition. The Methodist CMAA Student
Chapter follows Johnson and Wales-Charlotte Campus, The University of
South Carolina, and Western Carolina University as the only official chapters
in North and South Carolina. The student chapter at Methodist University
is engaged is numerous charitable projects and activities to benefit the
campus, the local community, and beyond.

Reeves School of Business Professor Featured on The Bill LuMaye Show
Dr.
Josiah Baker, Professor of Economics, was recently featured on The Bill
LuMaye Show on NewsRadio 680, Raleigh, NC. Baker discussed the current
state of the U.S. economy and what he sees on the horizon as policy makers
continue to struggle with fiscal reform. The full interview can be heard here.
Dr. Baker is in his first year at Methodist University following teaching
and research positions at George Mason University, American University,
The Catholic University of America, and George Washington University.
He specializes in International Political Economics, the intersection
of political science, geography, and economics.

Alumnus Rides to Raise Money for Haiti Relief
Devin Beck, a Reeves School of Business graduate, is riding his bicycle
from St. Augustine, FL to San Diego, CA to raise money for an Executives
Without Borders relief project in Haiti.
Devin graduated from Methodist University in 2010 with a degree in Business
Administration and a Concentration in PGA Golf Management. You can follow

Reeves School of Business Welcomes new Director of Professional Tennis
Management
Methodist University and the Reeves School of Business are proud
to announce Mr. Tom Daglis as the Director of the Professional Tennis
Management Program. Mr. Daglis is the current President of the United
States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and is certified as a Master
Professional. In 2006, the USPTA awarded him with their most prestigious
accolade as the Alex Gordon National Professional of the Year.

Dr. Spence Davis Featured as One of Fayetteville's Most Interesting People
of 2011
Dr. Spence Davis, Associate Professor of Economics, was named among the
Fayetteville Observer's most interesting people of 2011. Dr. Davis, who
earned the distinction by way of his summer bike trek across America in
support of 100 Mothers Literacy, was among a group that included a dinosaur
excavator, international cooking competitor, and "The World's Strongest
Pastor".

Methodist University Winter Commencement
The Reeves School of Business conferred one hundred degrees, including
18 Master of Business Administration, 4 Bachelor of Arts, and 78 Bachelor
of Science at the 39th Winter Commencement Ceremony on December 17, 2011.
Among the graduates were 6 members of Alpha Chi, the National Scholastic
Honor Fraternity; 25 members of Delta Mu Delta, International Honor Society
in Business; and 5 members of Omicron Delta Kappa, Leadership Honor Society.
Thirteen Reeves School of Business Students graduated with Academic Honors.
