Major additional costs for the PA program will include the purchase of medical
textbooks (for both the didactic and clinical years), medical equipment (such
as a quality stethoscope, otoscope, ophthalmoscope, sphygmomanometer, lab coats,
patches, name tags, etc.), and living expenses. Medical equipment and textbooks

Expansion of Physician Assistant Training Grant Recipient - Providing Tuition
Assistance for Primary Care
On September 28th, 2010 the Methodist University PA Program was awarded $1.18
million over 5 years through the Health Resources and Services Administration
(HRSA) Expansion of Physician Assistant Training Program (EPAT). EPAT is a five-year
initiative that will invest over $32 million in training for primary care PAs.
The goal of the EPAT program is to increase student enrollment in primary care
PA programs and to produce 600 new primary care PAs by 2014. The EPAT program
provides funds for student educational expenses, stipends, reasonable living
expenses and indirect costs.
The Methodist University PA Program will select six students out of the next
5 incoming classes to receive a total of $44,000 in tuition assistance ($22,000
a year). These select students must enter into primary care medicine (family
medicine, pediatrics, or internal medicine) for at least 5 years upon graduation.
Only students who have been accepted and who have paid their enrollment deposit
are eligible to apply for this opportunity. Students will submit an essay application
that will allow the faculty to determine the student's desire to enter into
primary care, understanding of primary care, and financial need.
Applying for Financial Aid
To be considered for most Federal Direct Loans, applicants must first complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA form is available
online at www.fafsa.ed.gov
after January 1 of each year. The Methodist University Title IV School Code
is 002946.
Priority awarding of funds is given to those students who filed their FAFSA
and have completed their financial aid file. The loans are contingent upon maintaining
eligibility, i.e. in good standing with the Department of Education (not in
default), credit worthiness (Graduate PLUS), availability of funding from the
program resources and maintaining satisfactory academic progress (SAP) as defined
in the Methodist University Academic Catalogue. Award Letter is our offer of
financial assistance to you. You must sign and return the Award Letter accepting
