History Chartered November 1, 1956 as a senior, coeducational liberal arts college. Was
established as a joint venture by the citizens of Fayetteville/Cumberland County
and the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. The college

Campus
The 617-acre campus includes 32 buildings, an 18 hole golf course, football/track
facility, baseball and softball fields, tennis courts, outdoor volleyball and
basketball courts, and an amphitheater. Click

Community
The city of Fayetteville
is North Carolina's fourth largest metropolitan area and is home to over 250,000
people, arena league football, minor league hockey and baseball teams, and numerous
cultural and entertainment facilities.
Enrollment
The University today serves approximately 2,200 students—1,600 in the
day program and 600 in Methodist University at Night, the University's evening
and weekend program. The student/faculty ratio is 15:1. Average class size is
around 20 students. The student body includes persons of diverse ages and nationalities,
representing 48 states and 30 foreign countries. Approximately 40% of our students
come from out of state. Over $6 million of institutional scholarships and grants
were awarded to our students last year.
Alumni
Since 1964, the University has graduated 8,900 students. Alumni have excelled
in many ways; they have earned graduate degrees, advanced professionally, started
their own businesses, and become leaders in their chosen fields and communities.
Residence Halls
The University can house 869 students in its nine residence halls. All residence
halls include air conditioning, free cable TV and local telephone service, laundry

Areas of Study
Today the College offers bachelor's degrees in over 70 fields of study (majors
and concentrations) including communications, justice studies, business
administration, education, and social work. New majors and concentrations recently
added include management information systems, resort management, and computer
information technology. Students may earn a minor in leadership studies through
the Lura S. Tally Center for Leadership Development. In the Fall 2001 semester,
the College instituted its first master's degree in the Physician Assistant
Program, and in the Fall of 2005, the College began its MBA at Pinehurst and
Masters of Justice Administration programs.
Athletics
The College is a NCAA Division III member offering 19
intercollegiate sports. The University competes in the USA South Athletic
Conference. Several years ago, the University formed the Methodist University
Monarch Booster Club and the Methodist University Athletic Hall of Fame.
