FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Mark Kendrick, co-advisor of the Marketing Club and instructor of marketing at Methodist University, announced that the Reeves School of Business will be hosting the first “Distinguished Student Leaders at Methodist University” conference Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008. The first conference of the series will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Myrover-Resse Fellowship Home, located at 560 Wilkes Rd in Fayetteville.
“The idea behind the conference is to give students the tools to become effective leaders,” said Mark Kendrick, instructor of marketing and co-advisor to the Marketing Club at Methodist University. “We want students to learn that the being a leader extends past the four years they attend school; we hope that when they graduate, they will have enhanced knowledge, skills, and attitudes about the idea of leadership.”
Kendrick enlisted the help of several local, state, and nationally-recognized leaders to present. He said the speakers were selected based on their history of servant leadership and civic involvement. The presenters include County Commissioner Chair Dr. Breeden Blackwell, United States Representative Mike McIntyre, and motivational speaker Kenneth Ivory. The conference is open only to Methodist University’s student representatives, and resident and faculty advisors.
Kendrick noted that leaders from several student organizations requested help with marketing their clubs and motivating club members. “We want to show students that there are ways to get people motivated besides offering free pizza at a meeting,” said Kendrick.
