FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Danny Highsmith, vice president of Beasley Broadcasting Group and this year’s Loyalty Day chair, will lead 105 community volunteers as they canvass Cumberland County Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, seeking support for scholarships for Methodist University students. Eighty-five percent of Methodist’s 2,100 students receive financial assistance, and scholarship funding for deserving students is a critical need.

“‘A Day of Support, a Lifetime of Difference,’ is the theme for this year’s campaign,” said Lauren Cook Wike, director of the University’s annual fund. “Methodist has graduated 9,500 students, a third of whom live and work in our community and make a difference every day as teachers, physician assistants, entrepreneurs, bankers, pastors, and more. The scholarship support we are asking the community to give this Loyalty Day will help give our current students the same opportunities to make a difference in the future.”

This year’s Foundation Board members are Mac Edwards, president; Gayle Nelson, vice president; Jeffery Baker, treasurer; Louis Feraca, immediate past president; Lauren Cook Wike, secretary; Frank Barragan III, Bill Bowman; Charles Broadwell; Alan Buffaloe; Jan Cobb; Kevin Dennison ’95; Stephen Driggers ’76; Mark Fisher; Bishop Kenneth Hill; Gwen Holtsclaw ’68; Greg Klein; Barbara Lahiff; George Matthews; Dineen Morton; Jim Pittman; Vance Townsend; Julia Shaw; Phyllis Houston-Washington; and Jimmie Wood, IV ’00.

The Loyalty Day Kick-off Breakfast is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Feb. 12 in the Green and Gold Café on the Methodist University campus. Media may R.S.V.P. for the Kick-off Breakfast by calling Melissa Jameson, director of University Relations, at (910) 630-7043.
