FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Methodist University has received a gift of $100,000 from the Thomas R. and Elizabeth E. McLean Foundation to establish the Elizabeth E. McLean Endowed Professorship.
The purpose of the professorship is to honor the late Elizabeth E. McLean and assist Methodist University in attracting and retaining distinguished faculty in the Department of English and Writing. Elizabeth McLean was a graduate of Vassar College who greatly valued education and was an avid reader.
“Methodist University is blessed to have an excellent faculty who are committed to our fundamental mission of teaching, and who make significant contributions to the scholarly literature,” said President M. Elton Hendricks in response to the professorship. “It is a wonderful opportunity for Methodist that the McLean Foundation recognizes the importance of quality faculty and has chosen to support them.”
This marks Methodist University’s fourth endowed professorship,
and the first in the area of English and Writing.
Methodist University is Fayetteville’s only independent, four-year institution
