The Methodist University Campus
Recreational & Intramural Program provides structured
and unstructured leisure time for students. These activities
provide students with opportunities to learn skills that
will contribute to their social, physical, emotional, and
intellectual growth and development. This program serves
to train students in recreation, management and related
fields. CRIMP also is responsible for maintaining various
athletic and recreation facilities.

Our Mission
To help introduce students, faculty, and
staff, regardless of their level of experience, to the varied
and beautiful outdoor environments in our area.
Outdoor Adventure Club
North Carolina is blessed with many exciting outdoor opportunities
such as mountain rock climbing and wind surfing. Our staff
can help find activities that are right for you. Most of
our trips are designed to accommodate beginners, but we
also have trips for the experienced person to strengthen
their skills. The Outdoor Adventure program also offers
campus group unique and challenging courses designed to
develop trust and positive interpersonal dynamics.
Intramurals
Intramural activities include, but are not limited to,
flag football, basketball, softball, volleyball, and table
tennis. CRIMP also sponsors pool and spades tournaments.
All activities are open to all students, faculty and staff.
Crafts
CRIMP sponsors craft classes, such as “Paint till
you faint” and “Nicks and Needles”. These
programs give students an opportunity to learn new hobbies
while expressing creativity.
Nimocks Fitness Center
This fitness and recreation center contains a full line
of Cardio equipment, such as treadmills, striders, ellipticals,
recumbent bikes, and spinning bikes, along with weight machines
and an indoor track. This facility has a multi-purpose gym
available for basketball and volleyball.
Challenge Course
The challenge course provides a non-competitive environment
for building teamwork and interpersonal relationships by
enhancing trust, communication, problem solving, and leadership
skills.

Trips
and Expeditions
Kayaking
Learn basic kayaking techniques and enjoy nature’s
beautiful scenery and wildlife.
Skydiving
Complete ground school and begin the AFF jump course, or
Tandem jump. Freefall at speeds of up to 120 mph and enjoy
breathtaking views during your canopy ride.
White Water Rafting
Experience white water rafting trips containing levels I,
II, III, and IV rapids. Enjoy outdoor nature, hike in the
mountains, go horseback riding, visit and explore the Mammoth
Cave.
Ballooning
Acquire basic ballooning skills and enjoy beautiful NC scenery
from above.
Visit New York City
Enjoy the city sights on the city sightseeing tour bus,
visit famous Museums, Times Square, UN, Ground Zero, Wall
Street, etc., and walk through Central Park.
Visit New Orleans
Visit the birthplace of Jazz, the French Quarter, the Aquarium
of the Americas, Culture and Art Museums, etc.
Swimming with Manatees
Learn and Snorkel with the West Indian Manatees, gray-brown
aquatic mammals which weigh up to 3,000 pounds and have
3 to 4 nails on each flipper...
Windsurfing / Sea Kayaking
Learn basic windsurfing skills and acquire sea kayaking
techniques.
Skiing, Snowboarding and Tubing
Learn basic snow skiing and snowboarding skills, enjoy skiing
and boarding at black diamonds, stay at Pipestem National
Park and visit the coal mine museum.
Mountain Trip, Georgia
Acquire basic repelling techniques, get basic mountain climbing
skills.
Key West, Florida for Spring Break
Snorkeling, sailing, swimming with dolphins, fishing, scuba
diving, exploring Fort Zachary Taylor, Fort Jefferson at
the Dry Tortugas, The Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum,

Dog Sledding and Cross Country Skiing
Ever imagine you are driving a team of sled dogs? What type
of dog makes the best sled dog? What commands does a musher
use? What equipment is required to race? You will find out
all the answers, plus you can learn to drive a team of sled
dogs.

Who can attend an Outdoor Adventure
Trip?
Trips are open to all students, staff, faculty, and
their immediate families.
What is the cost?
The cost of the trip varies depending on the planned activity;
however, the costs are very reasonable and are offset, in
part, by student activity fees.
What does the Outdoor Adventure Program
provide?
The program provides all necessary equipment along with
trained instructors and food.
Is previous experience necessary?
No. Most trips are designed for beginners; however, advanced
trips are available for those who meet the prerequisites.
The staff or program coordinators can determine the right
trip for you.
Who are the instructors?
The instructors are students who enjoy the wilderness and
are constantly pursuing outdoor and recreational activities.
They have medical and rescue training and extensive knowledge
of their specific area. If you have an interest in becoming
an instructor, contact the CRIMP office.
Can trips be arranged for specific groups?
Yes. Trips may be organized for different clubs, organizations,
and academic classes.
