Maurice Hart enters his first season at Methodist coaching the linebackers and acting as the academic coordinator.
Prior to MU, Hart was at SUNY Cortland as the defensive backs coach for three seasons. In 2015, the Red Dragon defense recovered 17 fumbles and intercepted 13 passes to help the team rank 16th nationally in defensive turnovers. Under Hart’s guidance the Red Dragons had two All-Empire 8 players in 2015. In 2014, the defense was ranked among national leaders in passing efficiency and was near the top 10 in third-down conversion percentage in Division III.
He arrived at Cortland from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he coached the Engineers’ defensive backs in 2013. Under his tutelage, RPI led the Liberty League in interceptions.
The previous season, Hart coached cornerbacks at Emporia State. The program led the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and ranked fifth nationally in interceptions and finished the 2012 season with a school-record 10 wins and a Top 25 finish.
Before arriving at Emporia State, Hart coached defensive backs and assisted as a special teams coordinator at Ellsworth Community College in 2011.
Hart earned a bachelor’s degree from N.C. Central in 2010, while serving as a coaching intern. He played two seasons at College of the Canyons (Calif.) where he ranked among the top safeties in the National Junior College ranks. He earned two All-Western State Conference awards and his teams won two bowl games.
Maurice and his girlfirend Desiree have a daughter, Kieryn.
