Professor Malpass joined Methodist University as an adjunct instructor in the Nursing department assisting with Community Health Nursing and Nutrition in January of 2014. In the fall of 2014, she joined the Methodist University family as a full time faculty member in the Nursing department teaching Fundamentals of Nursing and Community Health Nursing. Professor Malpass has seventeen years of nursing practice in community health and long term care. She has worked as an Emergency Room Nurse, Home Health and Hospice Nurse, as well as in Nursing Administration in Long Term Care as a MDS nurse. She holds a B.S.N. from Lees McRae College and M.S.N. from East Carolina University and in May 2017, she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) at East Carolina University in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program.
Ms. Malpass is member of Mt Gilead Baptist Church in Clinton as well as the American Red Cross. Professor Malpass is an active member of the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) with an interest in health policy and independent practice for Advanced Practice Nurses in North Carolina. She is a member of the NCNA’s subcommittee, Doctor of Nursing Practice Council. She is also a member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA).
Professor Malpass has a passion for Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing. Her research interest is in exploring the perception of nurses and nursing students in caring for end of life patients as well as music therapy as a way to decrease anxiety and restlessness in terminal patients. She has completed undergraduate research in managing pain in geriatric home health patients. Her graduate research centered on Culture Sensitivity and Awareness of staff members in a Home Health and Hospice Setting.
Ms. Malpass is married to Ryan Malpass and they reside in Clinton. She has three adult children, Bradley, Noel, and Cody and a four legged child, Belvee. Belvee is the best Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog in the whole world! When not teaching and studying, Professor Malpass can be found relaxing at Topsail Island, her second love.
