Spencer Martinis in his fourth season as the top assistant for the Monarchs. His duties include serving as the pitching coach, head coach of the developmental team, and coordinating the Monarchs recruiting efforts.
Martin helped the Monarchs to a 28-16 record in 2011 and coached ABCA All-Region pitcher Tre' Britt and USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Year Michael Judge. Martin was in charge of a pitching staff that sported a team earned run average of 3.31 and posted six shutouts.
During the 2012 season, the Monarchs finished 22-21 with Martin leading D3baseball.com's Region Pitcher of the Year and the USA South Pitcher of the Year Chris Perry. Perry led NCAA Division III in strikeouts per nine innings and at the conclusion of the season was selected in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the St. Louis Cardinals.
A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Martin was a four-year letter winner for Methodist University as a pitcher and undergraduate assistant coach. He currently holds the school record for consecutive strikeouts, striking out 11 straight batters in 2005.
Martin previously served as the volunteer assistant coach for Methodist in 2009 and as pitching coach for Penn State Greater Allegheny in 2010. Martin also has two seasons of coaching experience in the collegiate summer circuit working as the pitching coach for the Albany Dutchmen of the NYCBL and pitching coach for the 2010 KIT League Champion Tradewater Pirates.
Martin graduated from Methodist with honors in 2008 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. His resume also includes working numerous college baseball camps, showcases, and clinics throughout the east coast.
