Free Applications for Viewing Course Materials

To ensure you can view all of your online course's content, there are applications downloads that are free for you to use. These are external links unaffiliated with Methodist University.

  1. PowerPoint 2003 Viewer
If you do not own PowerPoint and need to read a PowerPoint file, download and install Microsoft's free Power Point Viewer here (make certain you read the "notes" section):
  2. Word 2003 Viewer
If you do not own Word and need to read a Word file, download and install Microsoft's free Word Viewer here:
  3. Excel 2003 Viewer
If you do not own Excel and need to read an Excel spreadsheet, download and install Microsoft's free Word Viewer here:
  4. Adobe Acrobat Reader
Some course materials will be presented in Adobe PDF form. These files are created using Adobe software, usually Acrobat. Most computers nowadays have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, but for those who don't or need an upgrade, visit the link below.
  5. Quicktime
Certain multimedia types cannot be played by Windows Media Player; a great many of these are Quicktime movies. The free version of Quicktime is perfectly functional for whatever you need in your course involving video playback.(Uncheck the box under "Stay Informed" and click "Download"; name and e-mail not required.)
  6. MS Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 Documents
Now that Office 2007 is out, the suite is putting out files that your Office 2003 cannot read. Installing this plugin will make your Word 2003 read Word 2007 documents, and so on.
  7. Works Converter
Do you receive documents created with Microsoft Works, not to be confused with Microsoft Word? Download and install the free converter, and Word will open Works documents (does not work with Word Perfect).
