University
These instructions will show you how to set up your profile and how to sign
up for a Writing Center appointment using the WCOnline system.
How to Set Up Your Profile
You must have a profile to use the WCOnline system; follow these steps:
1. From any computer: Go to http://rich37.com/methodist
From a computer in the Writing Center: Click on the desktop icon "The
Writing Center at Methodist University."
2. At the next screen, click on "If this is your first visit, click here
to register for an account."
3. The next screen is where you will fill in your profile information. Fill
in ALL of the fields. (Ignore asterisks.) The email address should be one you
access on a regular basis. The phone number should be your primary contact phone
number. If your major is undecided, please enter "Undecided." If
you are not sure of your graduation year, please select the year you think you
might graduate.
4. When you have filled in all fields, please click on "Register."
5. On the next screen, you will then see "You have successfully registered!
Click here and log in to continue." Click there to proceed to the WCOnline
login screen if you wish to schedule an appointment.
How to Schedule an Appointment
Before you can schedule a Writing Center appointment, you must have a profile
set up in the WCOnline system. Once you have created your profile, follow these
steps to schedule an appointment:
1. From any computer: Go to http://rich37.com/methodist
From a computer in the Writing Center: Click on the desktop icon "The
Writing Center at Methodist University."
2. At the next screen, enter the email address from your profile
information, as well as your profile password. Click "Log In."
3. The next screen is where you schedule your appointment. First, make sure
that the schedule for the week you want your appointment is showing on the screen.
If not, click on either "Next Week>>" or "<<Prev
Week" at the top of the schedule grid. Once you are sure that the correct
week for your appointment is showing on your screen, go to Step #4.
4. On the left side of the appointment schedule grid, find the day/date you
want for your appointment. Then, look across the grid for that day and choose
your appointment time.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL appointments at the Writing Center begin
ON THE HOUR (Noon, 1 pm, 7 pm, etc.) and end 45 minutes past the hour. For example,
if you choose a 10 am appointment time, your appointment will end at 10:45 am.
For each time slot on the schedule grid, available tutors are indicated by
white squares; tutors not available are indicated by red squares. Once you have
found your appointment time, select a tutor who is available for that appointment
time slot. Click on the white square for that tutor in the time slot you have
chosen.
5. At the top of the next screen you will see the name of the Writing Consultant
who will be working with you. Your appointment start time will appear in the
"Start:" box (i.e. 10 am). The end time for your appointment will
appear in the "End:" box (i.e. 10:45 am).
6. Enter the course name and number for the writing assignment you will be working
on when you come for your appointment. Please do NOT abbreviate the course name;
enter the complete course name and number. For example, enter "English
102" rather than "Eng. 102." Make sure that the course name
begins with a capital letter and that the remaining letters are lower case.
For example, enter "English" rather than "ENGLISH" or
"english."
7. Enter the course instructor’s last name. Please make sure that the
last name begins with a capital letter and that the remaining letters are lower
case. For example, enter "Smith" rather than "SMITH"
or "smith."
8. In the last box, briefly describe what you want to work on during your Writing
Center visit (grammar, organization, run-on sentences, etc.).
9. Click on "Save Reservation." You will then see the message "Your
reservation was successfully added for the following date…" (The
date of your appointment will be shown.)
NOTE: At this point you should write down the date and time
for the appointment you reserved. WCOnline will always send you a confirmation/reminder
email, but it’s a good idea to write down the information before you leave
the system.
10. Click on "Close." You will then be brought back to the appointment
reservation screen. You now have two options. You can schedule another appointment
or, if you are finished, you can log out. To leave the system, click on "Log
out" in the upper left corner of the appointment reservation screen.
