Dr. Hancock,
I am excited at the fact that you would take the time to meet the students in my night class. To see that you have a blog is even more important for information technology students. I can imagine that your schedule must be overwhelming but to allow us the time to meet with you tonight is just awesome. It really shows the students that you care. Thank you for your time......Ms. Pat Taliaferro.

Dr. Jackson, thank you so much for your kind remarks. They are much appreciated. I agree that Methodist is well poised to take the next big step forward, but primarily because of such friends and champions as you.

Best wishes,

Ben Hancock

It is great news to hear that Dr. Crisp has accepted the invitation of the Executive Vice President/Academic Dean of Methodist University. He is a great man of vision and wisdom and is wonderful at leading Methodist forward. I feel that with Dr. Hancock and Dr. Crisp that Methodist has found a team that will make it not one of the best private or small schools in the nation but will make it one of the Best Univeristies in the World. I see great things coming from the MU Family. Thank you Dr. Crisp for accepting the position and Thank you Dr. Hancock for seeing the great leadership that he brings to the University. May God truly bless you both as you lead us.

Ben, I am so sorry I missed you before you left. You moved too fast and I was too busy. Hope all is well. I'm sure you're swamped with meetings, receptions, food . . . life can be good, can't it! It's just not the same around here without you. For one thing your office is clean. Sweet! But for another I'll miss your sense of humor. You left us with big shoes to fill and a work ethic that will be hard to top. All the best to you and your wife. How sweet it is to fulfill a life-long dream! Be well and be safe.

Well, I can't resist a discussion about books.

One of my favorites is "The Stream of Life," by the Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector. I re-read this (thankfully short) book nearly every year, because Clarice expresses so well the beauty of living. Her ideas about language combine with her mysticism in really interesting (postmodern, feminist) ways.

Actually, my favorite movie is "Wings of Desire," which, in many ways, is about the same things, with the added bonus of a Berlin setting (and Peter Falk!).

(I'm just doing my part to be the English professor who brings in things out of left field).

Steve, thanks for your feedback and for your thoughts. I have much to learn from those of you who have served Methodist so well for so long. It is because of your service that we are so well positioned to take the next big step.

I look forward to continuing our conversation,

Ben Hancock
