Homicide Investigations: Beyond the Basics

April 16-17, 2015

The Center for Excellence in Justice Administration and the Gastonia Police Department announces a homicide seminar to be held at the Gastonia Police Department Headquarters.  This opportunity is open to All law enforcement officers, crime analysts, and crime scene investigators, and is CLOSED TO THE PUBLICThe Center for Excellence in Justice Administration is funding the entire cost of this seminar and there is no cost to seminar participants.

This lecture will provide violent crime investigators, crime scene technicians, medical examiners, coroners, forensic nurses, and attorneys assigned to investigate, process, conduct examinations, and prosecute such cases practical processes to overcome unusual challenges.

Professor Dave Pauly, MFS (CW4, USA Ret.) will present on the critical nature of absence of evidence in unusual homicide cases.  Dave retired from the U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) as the Special Agent in Charge of the Ft. Bragg CID office.  Professor Steven Downs, MFS (CW5, USA Ret.) will present on the challenges he faced as the senior CID investigator at the Ft. Hood shootings.  He will also describe the unique challenges of the unified command structure in complex homicide investigations.  Mr. Paul Kish will present on the unique aspects of blood stain pattern analysis and crime scene reconstruction.  Paul is an internationally recognized blood stain spatter and crime scene reconstruction expert (http://www.paulkish.com).
