December 5, 2008

Please make your reservation (extension 7005) by Monday, December 8 for the Christmas Dinner to be held on Saturday, December 13 at 6:30 P.M. in the main cafeteria.

Congratulations to our colleague, Michael Colonnese, recipient of both an Emerging Artist Grant from the Regional Arts Council (serving Eastern North Carolina), and a fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center. These grants will help fund his sabbatical participation in a writer's program in Vermont.

Dr. Sharon Kendrick, Director of Resort and Club Management, co-authored a paper and was accepted to present at the North American Management Society/Midwest Business Administration Association Conference in March, 2009. In addition, Dr. Kendrick and her co-author, former dissertation chair, Dr. Melody Wollan, Assistant Professor of Management at Eastern Illinois University, have received an award for the paper.

"Choose life," a poem by Bill Watt, has been published in the collection entitled Famous Poets of the heartland: A treasury of beloved family poems. Lavender Aurora is the poetry editor for the collection produced by Famous Poets, Box 21, Talent, OR 97540.

Evan M. Bridenstine (Theatre Department) appears as the ghost of Jacob Marley in The Gilbert Theater's production of A Christmas Carol. The show opens Friday, November 28th and runs through December 14th. For further information or reservations, call 678-7186 or check www.gilberttheater.com.

Theatre major Maegan Owens attended the North Carolina Theatre Conference Screening Auditions in Greensboro on November 21 and made it through the call-back session, meaning that she will get to go on to the Southeastern Theatre Conference Professional Auditions in Birmingham, Alabama, in March. SETC holds auditions for theatre companies from all over the country for both summer and year-round employment ranging from stock & repertory companies to dinner theatres, cruise lines, outdoor summer theatres, to children's, touring and theme park venues.
