I have enjoyed Sarah Addison Allen’s writing since Garden Spells, and I think that The Peach Keeper has many of the same elements. Claire Waverly and Bay even make a cameo appearance in the novel! Scent plays a large role in The Peach Keeper, but these hints of the mystical are not overbearing or implausible. The book follows Willa Jackson and Paxton Osgood as their friendship develops with hints of a long buried (literally!) crime resurface. We also see romantic relationships developing for each woman. Women’s friendships are central to this novel, and we see how promises can be kept for a lifetime. I devoured this book, as a much as a book can be devoured over multiple lunch breaks. I would definitely recommend it to women looking for a light, well-written, well-composed novel.
