New Resources!
DML is excited to announce that several resources have been expanded including Academic Search Complete and Business Source Complete. In addition, we have also added new databases including Art & Architecture Complete, Biography Reference Center, Environment Complete, and Legal Information Reference Center.
Expanded Library Hours
You spoke, we listened! The library will now be open the following hours:
- Sunday: 1:00pm – 1:00am
- Monday - Thursday: 7:00am – 1:00am
- Friday: 7:00am – 7:00 pm
- Saturday: 11:00am – 7:00pm
Kindles at the Library
Attention 21st century techie readers! The DM Library now has Kindles available to check out, pre-loaded with all the classics! Don't want to carry around that huge book for literature class? Just check out a Kindle. Free e-books can also be downloaded onto the Kindle. So if you find one you like, just let the library staff know, and we will download it for you. Happy reading!
Computer policy change
Effective August 1, 2011, All patrons must have a current MU ID in order to use the library's computers. The only exception will be recent MU graduates. For one academic year after graduation, graduates will retain access to all in-house access to the library resources except off-campus database usage. We apologize for any inconvenience that this new policy may cause. However, with the large increase of incoming students the library cannot accommodate everyone.
No children using computers
Since this is an academic library, we are not set up to serve as a facility for the care and supervision of minor children. The child’s parent or guardian must meet this responsibility. A child is defined as being age 14 or under.
Policy:
- Children aged through age 14 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult (18 or older) at all times.
- The library requires that a parent or guardian accompany and remain in view of children who are coming into the building.
- Parents or guardians are responsible at all times for their children’s conduct while in the library.
- Children are expected to follow the library’s policies and procedures, including those about behavior.
- If a child is left unattended in the library, Public Safety will be called.
- Children are not permitted to use the library’s computers or laptops.
- High school age young adults (Ages 15-17) accompanied by a MU student, staff, or faculty member with a current ID may use the computers.
Library Facebook page
The Library is finally on Facebook! If you would like to drop by and suggest books, look at upcoming events, say what you like or what we can improve at the library, or to check changes in the library schedule, we would appreciate your visit!
Call for Fiction Bloggers!
Do you or someone you know like to read fiction books for fun? Are you interested in sharing how you feel about books and telling whether you recommend a discussed book? If so, you are in luck because the Davis Memorial Library will be restarting the library blog and needs readers to leave comments! Readers may comment on the book itself or the author, or comment on the blog post. Any book in the Davis Memorial Library is up for discussion! If you would also like to be a guest blogger, sign up.
Change in ILL policy regarding textbooks
Due to a change in interlibrary loan policies, Davis Memorial Library will no longer process requests for textbooks through interlibrary loan. If you need a textbook for research or study purposes (as opposed to wanting to use it as the required text for a class you're taking) please see one of the reference librarians. We will help you obtain similar materials. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Remote Access
There is a new procedure for accessing the library's resources from home. After you click on the name of the database (i.e. Academic Search Complete or Science Direct), you will be prompted for your email user name (everything before the @ symbol) and your email password. If you have any questions, please ask at the reference desk, call 630-7645, or email to reference@methodist.edu.
Library competency schedule
- The schedule of sessions through June 2012 is now on the website. You can register online.
- All students must pass, with a grade of 70 percent or better, the Library competency before completing 60 semester hours at Methodist University.
