There is a wealth of high-quality information on the Internet. The problem is that there is just as much, if not more, substandard information. This guide will help you to find those business resources on the Internet that provide some of the most reliable information.

Also keep in mind, the Internet does not just mean websites. Many scholarly journals and books are now available electronically. Click here to access the library's list of business databases, through which you can find journal articles. netLibrary is a special database which contains electronic books. Enter your topic in the keyword search and pull up entire books on the computer. Use the links below to direct you to websites with information on the following topics:

AICPA Online

Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) - FASB is the designated organization in the private sector for establishing standards of fiancial accounting and reprtong. Those standards govern the preparation of fina ncial reports. They are officially recognized as authoritative by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The FASB WEb site provides Statements of Financial Accounting Standards and other documents.

Association for Practical and Professional Ethics - professional ethics organization based at Indiana University

Business Ethics: Corporate Social Responsibility Report - web site of Business Ethics Magazine

Business for Social Responsibility - member organization comprised of companies that wish to promote socially responsible business practices

CasePlace.org - online searchable database of business case studies and supplementary teaching materials including social and environmental challenges within traditional business problems from a non-profit educational organization

E-Center for Business Ethics - research center based at Colorado State University

Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) - non-profit organization with the amim of helping the make improvements in the lives of poor working people worldwide

European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) - non-profit organization with the goal of promoting ethical business practices throughout Europe

Institute for Global Ethics - a member organization comprised of educational institutions and research centers whose site contains publications, news items, and fictional ethical dilemmas

Josephson Institute of Ethics - non-profit membership organization which aims to improve the ethical quality of society by advocating principled reasoning and ethical decision making

Professional Ethics Resources on the WWW - designed at the Centre for Applied Ethics at the University of British Columbia

Society for Business Ethics (SBE) - organization of academics that publishes Business Ethics Quarterly

World Bank Group: Professional Ethics - the Office of Ethics and Business Conduct web site contains the World Bank's Code of Ethics, as well as internal ethics violation statistics back to 1993, and a list of firms debarred from doing business with World Bank

ActiveParks - This site has been developed by the National Recreation and Park Association in conjunction with ActiveUSA. This interactive site allows you to search local parks across the United States by activity and amenity.

American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance - This is the Web site of the largest organization of professionals involved in physical education, dance, health, athletics, safety education, recreation, and outdoor recreation.

American Therapeutic Recreation Association - This is the Web site of an association for American therapeutic recreation professionals and students. It is a good source of information on career opportunities in therapeutic recreation. The site even posts recent job openings in the field.

Cruise Lines International Association - A rich source of information on the cruise industry.

International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration (IFPRA) - For more than forty years, IFPRA has promoted the advancement of parks, recreation, and leisure services. It also disseminates information and organizes international meetings and congresses.

National Golf Foundation - This site is an excellent source of data on the business of golf. You can also search for people and businesses in the golf industry.

The National Park Service: ParkNet - This site provides information on the sites managed by the U.S. National Park Service. You can search for information on the park system as a whole or search parks by name, state, or region.

National Parks and Conservation Association - This American association is a nonprofit organization that seeks to protect, preserve, and enhance the national park system. This site lets you explore the parks, find quick facts about the parks, and learn about threats to the parks.

National Ski Areas Association - This trade association's site is a good source of industry statistics. It is also useful for finding information about issues facing the skiing industry, such as proposed government regulations.

PGA.com - This is the official website of the PGA of America. The site is a good source of industry information, including the latest news on golf equipment. There is also information on employment opportuneness in golf facilities. Additionaly, this is a good source of information on upcoming golf tournaments.

Recreation.gov - This comprehensive site provides information about recreation on all federal lands.

Resources for Researching the Hospitality Industry

Travel Industry Association of America - An excellent source of fast facts on the travel and tourism industry in the United States, as well as news and trends relating to the industry. Provides links to other sources of travel statistics, legislative news, demographic/economic statistics, technology trends, associations/organizations, and more.

Wilderness Education Association - This association promotes the professionalization of outdoor leadership and trains and certifies outdoor leaders.

World Leisure and Recreation Association - This association promotes research, education, and advocacy in leisure studies, park and recreation management, and tourism studies.

World Tourism Organization - The web site for the international agency that acts as clearinghouse for tourism information.
