Healthcare Administration Resources |
This guide is
intended to assist students performing research in the area of Healthcare
Administration. It suggests print resources available, but it is by no means a
comprehensive list of all materials available in the Library but is a
representative sample.
The Online Catalog is an excellent place to start your research. It will allow you to identify books in the Davis Memorial Library about your topic in Healthcare Administration. The Online Catalog is available from any Internet accessible computer at http://davislibrary.methodist.edu/. Use the Keyword search to locate materials. Type in the concepts you are looking for, using "and" to combine terms (e.g. health and privacy).
This is a list of the current titles in healthcare administration.
| Administrative Science Quarterly | Hospitals & Health Services Administration |
| American Journal of Public Health | Hospitals and Health Networks |
| Family Practice Management | JAMA |
| Gerontologist | Journal of Healthcare Management |
| Hastings Center Report | MGMA Connexion |
| Health Care Financing Review | New England Journal of Medicine |

To search for additional titles located at Davis Memorial Library, please search the Journal Holdings List.
Electronic Resources
Electronic databases are used to identify journal, magazine, or newspaper articles on a particular topic. Some databases are designated as full-text, which means that the whole text of the article is available in that database. You can print, save, or email that article. When using a database or any other tool in the Library, always write down the full citation to an article (author, article title, journal title, volume, issue, date, and pages) so you will have this information for your bibliography. If the article is not available with full-text use the Journal Holdings List to identify which periodicals are owned by the Library (print copies available in the Library or on the web at http://www.methodist.edu/library/elect/jrnllist.htm). Also, try Journal Finder to see if the journal, and its articles, is available in another database to which the Library subscribes.
Davis Library electronic databases are accessible at other campus locations and from off-campus. Please contact the library circulation desk (630-7645) for directions on obtaining a password to access the databases remotely.
Academic
Search Premier
Academic Search Premier is a general database
with some full-text articles included. It is a good place to look for
healthcare articles. Remember to use Journal Finder for articles that do not
have full-text included.
Business Source Premier covers all areas of business and management. It is from the same vendor as Academic Search Premier so there will be some overlap. Some full-text articles will be included, but for those that are not, remember to use Journal Finder.
CQ Researcher provides weekly reports on current issues. Each topic is covered in-depth with a balanced view. A bibliography is provided with each issue to further exploration. Look here for topics like Medicare and Social Security reform, patients'rights, drug company ethics, uninsured patients, and many more.
Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe is a good source for business news, company information, and legal information such as cases, statutes, and regulations. All information is available full-text.
Medline, created by the National Library of Medicine, searches all available journal articles on the topics of medical and veterinary science. When conducting searches in Medline, use the limiters to limit to human and English to reduce non-applicable results. There is a limited amount of full-text available in Medline. It does have a full-text subset called PubMed Central, or remember to search Journal Finder.
The Reference section of the library is a good place to develop possible topics, begin your research, and find critical pieces of information to finish your project. Try some of the following titles for information.
