Library Competency

What is the Library Competency?

The Library Competency class provides participants with an orientation to library services and instruction on using the Library's online catalog, electronic resources, and on the fundamentals of information literacy.

This class satisfies the library competency graduation requirement.

Who Should Take the Library Competency Class?

Any student who is not taking or has not taken IDS 110 at Methodist University must complete the Library Competency Class before completing 60 semester hours at Methodist University.

What Happens Next?

After a student has completed the Library Competency requirement by attending a class in the library and scoring 70% or higher on the Library Competency Test, his or her name is sent to the registrar's office. The registrar will make a note on the student's transcript stating that the requirement has been fulfilled.
