Letter #4
To: M. Berniche
From: Lafayette
Date: February 23, 1824
In French

Paris 23 February 1824
I am much happier in my friendships than in my correspondences, my dear Constituent. My answer to our friend Mr. Bejor was addressed where he was not. Your letter came to me late. It is only today as I am leaving for La Grange that I can address to you my sincere thanks. I am already the Constituent for all the liberals from the Maux division of the department which to me is very honorable and enjoyable. If you have successful results I hope to deserve your continuing trust. (Illegible)
With all my very best
Lafayette
