Marching Monarchs

Marching Monarchs

General Information

The Marching Monarchs heighten the competitive atmosphere at football games through entertaining performances and a display of school spirit. The Marching Monarchs is among the largest student organizations on campus and offers its students the opportunity to develop life skills through teamwork and leadership...on campus and beyond. In addition to performing at all home football games, the band generally represents Methodist University at a few special events throughout the semester. This is a fall-only ensemble. Regularly scheduled rehearsals take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:00-6:00pm, and on game-day before home football games.

There are no auditions to be part of the Marching Monarchs. All students are welcome to participate regardless of their intended area of study. If you enjoy making music, find fulfillment in representing your school in a meaningful manner, and enjoy being around like-minded people, this is the organization for you! Though not the primary reason for joining, the Marching Monarchs offer participation scholarships to most of its members, including color guard and Dazzlers dance team.

Drumline

A placement process will be used to determine instrumentation for the drumline.

The Marching Monarchs Drumline uses the following sticks and mallets:

  • TXDC1W (snare sticks)
  • AB1-AB4 (bass drum mallets)
  • ATH1 (tenor mallets)

Please plan to bring your own snare sticks and tenor mallets to the drumline placement process, and it is strongly encouraged to procure the above mentioned products; bass drum mallets will be provided.

Color Guard and Lionettes

All students with high school color guard or dance experience are encouraged to join the Marching Monarchs color guard and Dazzlers dance team. Members of these auxiliary sections are eligible for scholarships. Any current or incoming female student is welcome to participate.

The Lionettes is the official dance team of Methodist University and is open to full-time female students looking to enrich their dance experience. Like the Marching Monarchs and Basketball Pep Band, the Lionettes are part of the spirit force on and off campus, and heightens the competitive atmosphere at football and basketball games through engaging performances and an infectious display of school spirit. Members of the Dance Society must meet performance checks before being eligible to perform under the Lionettes brand. Participation scholarships are available fall and spring for this ensemble when qualified.

Scholarships

Participation scholarships are available to all students (regardless of major) who wish to play in one or more MU instrumental ensembles. Marching Band students will be granted a $1000.00 scholarship regardless of major. Pep-Band students will be awarded $500.00 for participation after marching season. Music Majors and Minors are eligible to compete for one of two $3000.00 departmental scholarships. Additional scholarship money may be awarded to exceptional students depending on the availability of scholarship funds.
