To be considered for most Federal Direct Loans, applicants must first complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA form is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov after January 1 of each year. The Methodist University Title IV School Code is 002946.
Priority awarding of funds is given to those students who filed their FAFSA and have completed their financial aid file. The loans are contingent upon maintaining eligibility, i.e. in good standing with the Department of Education (not in default), credit worthiness (Graduate PLUS), availability of funding from the program resources, and maintaining satisfactory academic progress (SAP) as defined in the Methodist University Academic Catalogue.
An Award Letter is our offer of financial assistance to you. You must sign and return the Award Letter accepting or rejecting your award offers. For detailed loan information and procedures, please visit the Methodist University Office of Financial Aid website by choosing: Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan.
To complete the FAFSA online, follow these simple steps:
GET A PIN – To sign your FAFSA electronically, you need to apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. With a PIN, you can check the results of your processed FAFSA, correct errors, print a copy of your Student Aid Report (FAFSA results), and complete your renewal FAFSA next year. You can register for a PIN at any time and should keep this information confidential and secure. It usually takes 3-5 days for the PIN to be sent electronically.
PRINT THE PRE-APPLICATION WORKSHEET – After January 1, when FAFSA for the upcoming academic year is available online, you can print this worksheet from the FAFSA website. It will help you get organized and will make completing the FAFSA much easier and quicker.
SELECT "FILL OUT A FAFSA" FROM THE FAFSA WEBSITE – Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the FAFSA. Utilize the built-in help features such as the "Chat" and "Need Help With This Page?" links, or call a Customer Service Representative at 800.433.3243 if you have problems. It is recommended that you have completed tax information from the previous fiscal year (1040, W-2 forms, etc.) prior to completing the financial sections of the FAFSA.
SAVE YOUR FAFSA OFTEN – By utilizing the "Save" button at the bottom of the screen, you can return to your FAFSA if you should lose your internet connection.
PRINT EVERY PAGE YOU ARE INSTRUCTED TO PRINT – These pages are important to keep as records should you have any questions or concerns regarding your FAFSA form. Be certain to print the FAFSA Summary Page and the FAFSA Confirmation Page.
SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION – The online FAFSA is usually processed within one week and results are sent directly to you and each college and university you list on the FAFSA. Within 2-3 weeks of our receipt of your processed FAFSA, you will receive either a financial aid award letter detailing the financial aid available for the upcoming year/semester or a request for additional information to complete the financial aid process.
