USA South announces preseason polls
Men's and women's basketball polls released today

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The USA South Conference office has released the preseason polls today for men's and women's basketball.  The polls are based on votes from each conference member's head coach without voting for themselves.

Christopher Newport has been selected as the top pick in the men's basketball poll with Methodist in a tie for fourth with Greensboro.  CNU received 36 points with six of the first place votes.  NC Wesleyan ranked second with Averett University in third.  Greensboro and Methodist both received 18 points.  The Monarchs are coming off of a 10-17 record during the 2005-06 season and look to improve this year.  They open with an exhibition at Division I opponent Gardner-Webb University on November 8th before hosting Newport News Apprentice November 19th at 2 pm.

Greensboro College was voted as the top women's basketball team in the conference receiving 46 points and 5 of 8 first place votes.  Christopher Newport came in second and Ferrum was picked third with Methodist chosen as the 4th team.  The Monarchs received 31 points after a 13-13 season in 2005-06.  The women will travel to the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic November 17-18th before opening their home schedule November 21st against Meredith at 7 pm.
