Program Philosophy:
Being a part of the Methodist University cheerleading and
dance team is about more than tossing stunts, dancing at
half-time, and grabbing a sign that says, "GO MONARCHS."
It is also about learning how to relate to individuals from
all walks of life, working together toward a common goal,
and building character and self-esteem.
Cheerleaders and dancers are expected to
make serious commitments to their programs. The season begins
in August and ends at the conclusion of the NCA/NDA College
Cheer and Dance Championships which are held in April.
Cheerleading:
Cheerleading at Methodist University is a challenging and
rewarding sport. Each individual works hard to learn new
and difficult skills while the coach actively promotes safety.
Methodist is known for its clean, creative, and innovative
style, which highlights each individual's talents in every
team performance.
While
the squad enjoys competing at NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach,
Florida, their first priority is promoting Methodist College
athletics and representing the college as a whole. These
young men and women have one goal in mind, and that is to
generate spirit and crowd involvement at Methodist College.
In addition to cheering for football and men's and women's
basketball games, the team performs at various functions,
conducts clinics, participates in numerous community service
projects in North Carolina, and consistently qualifies and
competes in the NCA/NDA College Cheer and Dance National
Championships each year.
Cheerleaders
at Methodist College have the opportunity to receive college
credit for their efforts in cheerleading as a varsity sport.
In addition, cheerleaders receive letter awards for each
year of participation.
Dance Team: The Methodist
Univeristy dance team is among the most active and visible
groups on campus— dancing on the sidelines at football and
basketball games, making public appearances at community
events, and competing in the NCA/NDA College Cheer and Dance
National Championships.
The
dance team consists of a group of young women who enjoy
dancing, generating school spirit, and entertaining fans
at Methodist University athletic events. The audience is
treated to unique choreography that includes fast transitions,
leaps, and turns. Their incredible half-time performances
demonstrate a variety of styles, including jazz, pom, and
funk.
