February 17, 2007 ATLANTA, GA- The Monarchs scored first before the Eagles took the 3-2 win. Methodist moves to 4-1 overall, while Emory starts the season 1-0. Senior Matt Hunt led off for the Monarchs reaching first on an error. After stealing second, junior Kyle Eudy singled to score Hunt on the play. The Eagles came back in the bottom of the first to tie the game off of two hits. Methodist was held scoreless in the top of the second before the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning on an unearned run. Hunt led off the third for the Monarchs and reached first after being hit by the pitch. Sophomore Brad Davis advanced Hunt to second on a sacrifice bunt and senior Jonathan Spivey's groundout moved Hunt to third. With two outs, Eudy's single scored Hunt and tied the game at two. Emory scored again in the third to take the 3-2 lead while the final six innings went scoreless for both teams giving the Eagles the win. Junior Kurt Kelly started the game for the Monarchs pitching six innings with two strikeouts. Freshman Fred Geisinger pitched the final two innings in relief only allowing one hit. The Monarchs will see the Eagles again on Sunday in the second game of the series at 1 pm. |
