March 29, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Monarchs came from behind to tie the game at six, but the Eagles scored the game-winner in the eighth to win 7-6. Methodist moves to 19-9 overall while 14th ranked Emory is 18-6 this season. Emory scored first after a RBI single from Davis Hissey in the first inning. The Monarchs came back to tie it in the bottom of the inning after senior Scott Russell reached on a walk. Sophomore Seth Kivett singled to center field to move Russell to second. Russell was able to score on a failed pickoff attempt. The Monarchs took the lead in the second when junior Billy Quinn led off with a double to left field. Junior Dustin Proctor singled to right allowing Quinn to score. The Eagles came back and tied the game at two in the top of the fourth on two hits. The Monarchs' junior Brad Davis led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Proctor's sacrifice fly. Emory took the lead in the fifth on a two-run home run from Frank Pfister and went up 6-3 in the sixth on a two-RBI double. Methodist cut the lead to two with a RBI-single from Proctor after Davis walked. Senior Michael Carter led off with a single through the left side in the seventh. He stole second and scored on Kivett's single to center. Kivett advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on an error to tie the game at six. Emory regained the lead on a RBI bunt single in the top of the eighth. The Monarchs left one runner on in the eighth but came up empty as Emory took the 7-6 win. Julian Smith picked up the win in relief for the Eagles while senior Robert Kisiah took the loss for Methodist in relief. Sophomore Fred Geisinger pitched the first five and two thirds for the Monarchs. Methodist and Emory will be back on Sunday at 2 pm for the second game of the weekend series. |
