Methodist Sweeps Panthers With 6-2 Victory

Senior Kyle Eudy went 2-for-3 from the plate with a run scored

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Monarchs came from behind for the second time in as many days to knock off Ferrum 6-2. The win gave Methodist the regular season sweep of the Panthers for the first time since 2001. The Monarchs move to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in the USA South while Ferrum is 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

Ferrum started off with the early lead with a RBI single from Justin Franklin in the first inning. The Monarchs went hitless in the first but junior Kenly Locklear led off the second with a double down the left field line. He advanced to third on junior Brad Davis' groundout. After a walk from senior Kyle Eudy, Locklear scored on junior Billy Quinn's single to left field.

The score stayed tied at one until the bottom of the fifth. Senior Scott Russell was hit by a pitch, stole second and then advanced to third on the throwing error. Sophomore Seth Kivett singled to center for Russell to score. Methodist scored again in the sixth when senior Michael Carter singled through the left side. Junior Philip Betterly followed up with a single to right center for Carter to move to third. Betterly stole second on the pitch to sophomore Brian Halpin and Carter was able to score on the throw.

The Panthers were able to score an unearned run in the top of the eighth, but Methodist responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Davis led off with a double over the right fielder's head and moved to third on a single from Eudy. Quinn hit the sacrifice fly for both Davis to score and Eudy advanced to second. Eudy moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Carter's bunt. Carter stole second and reached third on Betterly's groundout. Halpin singled to left field for Carter to score giving the Monarchs the 6-2 lead. Ferrum had runners on first and second in the ninth, but the Monarchs finished with the win.

Senior Chris Toth picked up the win on the mound in seven innings pitched. He struck out six while giving up eight hits without an earned run. Senior Robert Kisiah pitched the eighth while sophomore Alex Sholar finished things off in the ninth inning. The Monarchs had 12 hits on the day with everyone pitching in throughout the lineup. Quinn led with two RBI.

The Monarchs will travel to Bridgewater on Tuesday for a 3 pm start.
