Methodist Falls to Guilford 7-6 In Extra Innings

Junior Brad Davis led with 3 RBI including a 2-run home run

GREENSBORO, NC - Methodist held an early 5-0 lead, but Guilford came back to tie the game and sent it to extra innings with the Quakers winning 7-6 in the 10th inning. Methodist moves to 9-4 on the season while Guilford stands at 7-4 overall.

Methodist led off the top of the first with three run on two hits and a Quaker error. Senior Michael Carter reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on sophomore Seth Kivett's hit by pitch. Junior Kenly Locklear reached first on a fielder's choice that moved Carter to third. Senior Kyle Eudy singled to right center to score Carter and move Locklear to third. Junior Dustin Proctor reached on the error that scored Locklear before junior Brad Davis singled to score Eudy for the 3-0 lead.

With two outs in the top of the third, Proctor walked and Davis hit a home run to center field to give Methodist a five run advantage. The Quakers countered in the bottom of the inning with three runs on three hits. Guilford moved to within one in the fifth on an unearned run, but Kivett hit a home run to right field in the top of the seventh to give Methodist a 6-4 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Guilford tied the game at six with two runs on two hits. Senior pitcher Robert Kisiah struck out three in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. The Monarchs came up empty in the top of the 10th and the Quakers finished things off in the bottom of the inning to score the winning run on three hits.

Davis led the Monarchs with three RBI and batted 2-for-5 from the plate.
