Monarchs' Offense Runs Over Guilford 10-6
Sophomore Billy Quinn hits 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI

FAYETTEVILLE, NC— Methodist University kicked off the evening with a proclamation to George and Carolyn Armstrong to dedicate the new lights and rename the field Armstrong-Shelley Field in their honor.  The Monarchs followed up the ceremony with an offensive night with ten runs on thirteen hits to defeat Guilford 10-6.

Guilford left the bases loaded in the first while the Monarchs couldn't get a runner on base in the bottom of the inning.  Guilford's Joe John hit a two-run home run in the top of the second to take a 2-0 run, but Methodist stormed back with four runs started by sophomore Billy Quinn's single up the middle.  The Monarchs took advantage of a Guilford error and rattled off four other hits to take the lead.

The Monarchs scored a run in the third inning but the Quakers countered in the fourth with one run but the Monarchs got it back on a RBI single by senior Mike Ellsworth.  Methodist took a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a groundout by Ellsworth to score junior Michael Carter.  The Monarchs would need the cushion as the Quakers capitalized on two Methodist errors to score three runs.  The Monarchs held Guilford scoreless and scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the 10-6 victory.

Freshman Landon Jordan pitched the first three and a third innings for the Monarchs before freshman Trey Hill came in to pitch three and two thirds for the win.  Freshman Fred Geisinger closed it out with the final two innings of work for the Monarchs.

Methodist will travel to Lynchburg on Wednesday for a 3 pm start.  This weekend the Monarchs will host Averett on Saturday at 7 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
