Monarchs Roll Through Guilford 10-0

Junior Billy Quinn hit 2-for-4 with four RBI

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to the 10-0 win over Guilford Thursday night. Earlier this season the Quakers defeated Methodist 7-6 in ten innings. Methodist moves to 22-10-1 overall while Guilford is 15-18 this season.

After a scoreless top of the first the Monarchs put together a two-out rally sparked by sophomore Seth Kivett's walk. Junior Kenly Locklear singled to third and Kivett moved to second. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Junior Dustin Proctor drew the walk and moved to second on the passed ball that allowed Kivett to score. Junior Brad Davis loaded the bases with a walk and junior Billy Quinn hit one deep to right center to score all three runners for the 4-0 lead. Junior Mike Twichell scored a run in the second on a Guilford error to extend the lead to five. Three consecutive walks in the fourth set up a RBI single from Locklear for the 6-0 advantage.

The Monarchs kept things going in the sixth when senior Scott Russell reached on an error and Kivett doubled to left center for Russell to advance to third. Freshman Tripp Lancaster singled to right field to score Russell. Davis singled to right and advanced on the throw while Kivett was able to score and Lancaster moved to third. Quinn grounded out but Lancaster was able to score. Sophomore Brian Halpin kept things going with a single through the left side for Davis to score the Monarchs' tenth run.

Methodist starting pitcher, Landon Jordan pitched seven shutout innings giving up just three hits with four strikeouts. Sophomore Alex Sholar and senior Robert Kisiah each pitched an inning of relief to keep the shutout. Alex Pecevich took the loss for Guilford.

Methodist will travel to Averett this week for games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm.
