Monarchs Win 4-2 Over Hampden-Sydney

Junior Elliott Bisplinghoff gave up just one earned run in the win

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA- The Monarchs came from behind to win 4-2 over the Hampden-Sydney Tigers. Earlier this season the Methodist defeated the Tigers 8-4 in Fayetteville. Methodist moves to 20-9-1 overall while Hampden-Sydney is 13-19 this season.

Hampden-Sydney jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on two hits and a Methodist error. Junior Elliott Bisplinghoff got the Monarchs out of the inning with a strikeout and held the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of his time on the mound. The Monarchs took advantage of a Hampden-Sydney error in the top of the fourth when senior Michael Carter reached second. Sophomore Seth Kivett drew the walk and junior Kenly Locklear hit the RBI single for Carter to score. In the fifth inning, junior Billy Quinn led off with a single. Freshman Brian Inghram reached on an error with Quinn advancing to third. Freshman Tripp Lancaster grounded out, but Quinn tied the game at two.

The Monarchs put together a string of hits in the ninth when Locklear led off with a double. Junior Brad Davis laid down the sacrifice bunt for Locklear to move to third and sophomore Brian Halpin walked. Halpin stole second and moved to third before Locklear got caught in a run down off of Quinn's fielder's choice. Inghram singled for Halpin to score the eventual game-winning run. Freshman Jason Ridenhour pinch ran for Quinn on second and Lancaster's single scored Ridenhour for the Monarchs' fourth run of the game. Bisplinghoff gave up a single to start the bottom of the ninth and senior Robert Kisiah finished up the inning to pick up the save and preserve the 4-2 win.

Bisplinghoff struck out six in eight innings scattering six hits while Kisiah did not give up a hit with one strike out in the ninth. Locklear finished 2-for-4 with a RBI while Lancaster led with two RBI.

Methodist will host Christopher Newport this weekend on Saturday at 1 pm and Sunday at 2 pm.
