Monarchs in the Pro's
Blake Maxwell records opening night save for Boston's Single A; David Hoffman signs with Sioux Falls

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  It is an exciting time as the conference race heats up and the playoffs approach for the 2006 Monarch Baseball team.  It has also been an exciting week for two Monarch alumni.

David Hoffman, a 2005 Methodist graduate, signed a professional deal on Wednesday.  He was selected 12th overall by the Sioux Falls Canaries in the American Association Tryout Camp Draft.  Sioux Falls plays in the Northern League, a Midwest independent baseball league.

Blake Maxwell, also a 2005 Methodist graduate, got the save on opening night for the Greenville Drive, a single A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.  He came on in the ninth and struck out two and forced a pop up to end the game.  The game was the inaugural game at the new West End Field in Greenville, SC.

Maxwell and Hoffman are the 19th and 20th Methodist Monarch baseball players to play professionally.  See all twenty on a new web page in Monarch Baseball called Monarchs in the Pro's.
