The Methodist
University
baseball program has been traditionally one of the nation's
elite in NCAA Division III. In the program's 36-year
history, the Monarchs have tallied
a 1,034-373-9 record, including 48
post-season wins. Since 1990, the Monarchs have posted
518
victories, which is the 12th most among all NCAA Division
III member institutions.
Methodist has been to postseason play
22 times, including six appearances in the NCAA Division III
College World Series. The Monarchs were the 1995 National
Runner-Up and were tabbed during the regular-season as the
nation's top-ranked team in the 1989, 1996, and 2002
campaigns. Methodist has been listed among the nation's top
20 teams for 23 out of the last 25 years.
Individually, 35 Monarchs have
received All-American honors while playing on the pristine
turf at Armstrong-Shelley Field and a Methodist baseball player has
been on the Academic All-American team on three different
occasions. On top of that, veteran head coach Tom Austin
ranks sixth all-time in victories at the NCAA Division III
level with a mark of 848-339-8 in 28 seasons at Methodist.
Under Austin, Methodist has recorded 25-victory-or-better
seasons for 25 straight years.
