Monarchs Sweep Panthers With 6-4 Win
Methodist comes from behind to score three in the seventh

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs struck first but were forced to come from behind in the seventh to earn their second win of the season.  Freshman Fred Geisinger came on in relief of sophomore Elliott Bisplinghoff to grab the win.  Methodist improves to 2-0 overall, while LaGrange falls to 0-3.

The Monarchs retired the first three batters for the Panthers before coming on in the bottom of the first inning to score the first run.  Senior Matt Hunt was hit by the LaGrange pitcher Tim Canady's to advance to first base.  Sophomore Brad Davis' single through the right side advanced Hunt to third before senior Jonathan Spivey was walked to fill the bases.  Junior Kyle Eudy struck out, but sophomore Billy Quinn's ground out scored Hunt for the 1-0 lead. 

The Monarchs left LaGrange empty in the second before hits by freshmen Seth Kivett and Brian Halpin had runners on first and third.  Hunt made it to first on a fielder's choice that scored Kivett for the second run of the game.  LaGrange came out firing in the third and fourth innings to take the 4-2 lead.

Methodist came back and closed the lead to one in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Sophomore Dustin Proctor had an infield single to reach first and moved over to second on Kivett's ground out.  Halpin hit one past Panther second baseman Jose Navarro to score Proctor.  The fifth and sixth innings passed scoreless, before the Monarchs took advantage of a pitching change with Seth Harris coming in for the Panthers.  Harris walked Hunt and Davis with one out.  Spivey grounded out to the first baseman, but Hunt and Davis moved around for Kyle Eudy to hit one through the left side to score the two runs.  Quinn hit a single to the shortstop to move Eudy to third and send Harris back to the dugout.  Jay Tatum came in to pitch and Quinn stole second.  Junior Scott Russell singled to right field to score pinch runner Andy Redman and score the Monarchs' sixth run.

Geisinger held on to Methodist's lead through the final two innings to earn the 6-4 win.  Davis and Halpin both went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Monarchs.

The Monarchs will host Southern Virginia in a doubleheader on Wednesday at 1 pm.
