February 23, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Methodist scored first, but could not hold the lead as LaGrange took over for the 22-4 win. The Monarchs are now 6-3 this season and Lagrange College finishes the day 3-2 overall. Methodist struck first in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Brian Halpin led off for the Monarchs with a double and senior Michael Carter advanced him to second on a bunt. Sophomore Seth Kivett doubled to left center to give the Monarchs their first score of the game. In the top of the third inning Carter led off with a single to center field. He advanced to second on a balk and on to third by Eudy who reached on a fielders choice. Carter then stole home to give the Monarchs their second run of the game, but Methodist was out scored in the first three innings 9-2. The Monarchs were held scoreless through five innings until the top of the ninth inning. Freshman Brian Inghram led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. Inghram then advanced to third on a wild pitch and on to home on another passed ball to give the Monarchs their third run of the game. Kivett reached base on a walk and junior Mike Twitchell pinched hit for Eudy and walked. Twitchell stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by junior Philip Betterly which also scored Kivett. Carter, Kivett, and senior Scott Russell had a multi-hit game combining for six of the Monarchs' nine hits.
