FERRUM, VA - Emory University took Ferrum to 12 innings to win the South Regional and advance to the NCAA World Series.  At the conclusion of the Regional in Ferrum, the All-Tournament team was selected including Methodist senior Michael Ellsworth.  release

FERRUM, VA -  York struck early with four runs in the first inning before going on to win 5-1 eliminating Methodist in the NCAA regional.  The Monarchs finish the 2007 season 30-15.  release

FERRUM, VA -  The Monarchs were down early and came back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Emory responded with 8 unanswered runs to win 10-3 dealing Methodist their first loss of the tournament.  The Monarchs move to 30-14 on the season.  release

Monarchs Prevail in 21-14 Win Over Bridgewater
Mike Ellsworth finishes 5-for-5 with five RBI and four runs scored
FERRUM, VA -  The Monarchs started scoring early and kept up their offense to prevail over Bridgewater in the first game of the NCAA Baseball Regional on Wednesday.  It looked more like a football score, but the bats were connecting as Methodist tallied 14 hits to go along with Bridgewater's six errors to score a season-high 21 runs.  release

Monarchs Receive Bid to NCAA First Round Tournament in Ferrum, Va.
Methodist to make first appearance since 2004
INDIANAPOLIS, IN -  The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 53 teams that will compete in the 2007 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.  The Methodist baseball team received a Pool C bid after not receiving an automatic bid from the USA South Conference Tournament.  The Monarchs will compete in Ferrum, Virginia from May 16-20.  Winners of the eight first-round tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin, May 25-29.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC— The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Collegiate Baseball released the fourth poll of the season for NCAA Division III Baseball on Tuesday with the Monarchs ranked number 24 in the country.  release

Salisbury Wins Two Over Methodist
Brad Davis hits 3-for-5 with 3 RBI on the day
SALISBURY, MD -  The Monarchs traveled to Maryland for a doubleheader with ninth ranked Salisbury University.  The Sea Gulls took control early in game one to win 12-4 before winning 7-3 over the Monarchs.  The Monarchs complete the regular season 29-13 while Salisbury improves to 32-7.  release

Chris Toth pitches complete game 4-hitter for the win on the mound
FAYETTEVILLE, NC -  The Methodist baseball team improved their chances for a bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 6-1 win over York Saturday night.  Both teams are ranked in the South region by the NCAA with York at number three and Methodist at four and just a doubleheader remaining for each team.  With the win, the Monarchs improve to 29-11 on the season while York moves to 28-11.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -  The Monarchs' offense was running on all cylinders in game one to take the 7-4 win before Lynchburg came back to overtake Methodist 8-1 in game two.  The Monarchs move to 28-11 on the season while Lynchburg moves to 21-16 this year.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -  The Monarchs continued their winning ways on Friday afternoon with a 10-2 win over the Huntingdon Hawks.  The Monarchs move to 27-10 on the season while Huntingdon drops to 23-13 for the year.  release

Matt Hunt hits 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a RBI
HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA -  While the conference tournaments concluded on Sunday, the Monarchs took on Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday afternoon.  The Tigers held a 5-4 lead after the first four innings, but the Methodist came back to win 9-6.  The Monarchs move to 26-10 on the season while Hampden-Sydney stands at 18-16.  release

The USA South completed the tournament championships on Sunday, April 15.  The Monarchs won more trophies than any other school with four, while Christopher Newport won one and Ferrum won the other.  release

WINCHESTER, VA— After Friday afternoon's struggles offensively, things looked similar through the first few innings on Saturday, but the Monarchs broke out with a seven-run ninth inning to win 11-4 over the Hornets.  Methodist moves to 23-9 overall and 7-5 in the USA South while Shenandoah is 20-10 overall and 5-7 in the conference.  release

WINCHESTER, VA— It seemed like it would be a battle of the pitchers early with the first four innings scoreless.  Shenandoah got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to win 4-0.  Methodist moves to 22-9 overall and 6-5 in the USA South while Shenandoah is 20-9 overall and 5-6 in the conference.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC— The Monarchs trailed by two going into the bottom of the first inning, but tied the game in the bottom of the inning.  They took a 3-2 lead in the fourth before the Cougars went ahead 5-3 in the fifth.  The Monarchs tied the game in the seventh and scored the game-winning run in the eighth to prevail 6-5.  Methodist improves to 21-8 overall and 6-4 in the USA South Conference while Averett moves to 29-9 overall and 4-5 in the conference.  release

LYNCHBURG, VA— The Monarchs were down 1-0 to start the fourth inning but came out with four runs in the fourth to take the lead.  They held on through the final innings on top of a rain delay to earn the 11-8 win in eight innings.  Methodist improves to 20-7 overall while Lynchburg falls to 13-10.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC— Methodist University kicked off the evening with a proclamation to George and Carolyn Armstrong to dedicate the new lights and rename the field Armstrong-Shelley Field in their honor.  The Monarchs followed up the ceremony with an offensive night with ten runs on thirteen hits to defeat Guilford 10-6.  release

Methodist University Celebrates The Dedication of Armstrong-Shelley Field
FAYETTEVILLE, NC—Methodist University will celebrate the dedication of Armstrong-Shelley field at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. The field’s name now honors not only Bruce Shelley, but George H. Armstrong, a 1968 graduate, and his wife, Carolyn Riddle Armstrong. Tomorrow’s celebration will honor their most recent gift, stadium lights for the field. The Armstrongs have supported the Methodist Baseball team for over 15 years, making possible a new press box and concession stand.  release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Methodist took a 4-1 win over Christopher Newport on Sunday to sweep the series over the Captains.  With the win, the Monarchs launched into a three-way tie for first place in the USA South with Christopher Newport and Ferrum.  Methodist improves to 18-7 overall and 5-3 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 17-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference.  release

NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Monarchs handed the Captains just their second conference loss Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory.  The Monarchs scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning while sophomore pitcher Kurt Kelly went nine innings to hold onto the lead.  Methodist moves to 17-7 overall and 4-3 in the USA South while Christopher Newport is 17-7 overall and 5-2 in the conference.  release

DEMOREST, GA- The Methodist baseball team traveled to Demorest, Georgia this weekend to face Rhodes College as well as host Piedmont College.  The Monarchs lost 6-1 to Rhodes in game one, but came back and beat Piedmont 8-1 and 3-2 in a Saturday-Sunday series.  Methodist improves to 14-6 overall while Rhodes moves to 19-2 and Piedmont stands at 8-13.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarch baseball team put two away early with 7-1 and 12-1 wins over Emory & Henry on Thursday.  Methodist finished with 18 hits on the day while giving up eight to the Wasps.  Methodist improves to 10-4 overall while Emory & Henry falls to 2-9 this season.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Alderson-Broaddus Battlers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Monarchs came back to take the lead.  Methodist held a 13-9 lead going into the ninth when Alderson tied it to send the game into extra innings.  The Monarchs took the 14-13 win in the eleventh inning.  Methodist improves to 8-4 overall while Alderson-Broaddus moves to 4-1 this season.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs were anxious to face conference rival and 7th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday.  The Bishops scored first, but the Monarchs responded with a four-run first inning to score all the runs they would need.  Methodist moves to 7-3 overall and 2-1 in the USA South, while NC Wesleyan moves to 11-4 this season and 2-1 in the conference.  release

FERRUM, VA- After losing the first game 11-0, the Monarchs came back and defeated the Panthers 9-2 in game two.  The games originally scheduled to be played in a Saturday-Sunday series were both played on Saturday to avoid impending weather on Sunday.  Methodist moves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the USA South, while Ferrum moves to 3-4 this season and 1-1 in the conference.  release

ATLANTA, GA- Down 2-0 in the top of the fourth, the Monarchs capitalized on an Emory error to score two and tie the game.  Still tied going into the bottom of the seventh inning, Brandon Custer hit a home run to win it for the Eagles. Methodist moves to 4-2 overall, while Emory starts the season 2-0.  release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs used a host of pitchers to defeat the Southern Virginia Knights in two games on Wednesday.  In the first game, Southern Virginia tied the game at two in the fifth before Methodist took the 5-2 win.  During game two, the Monarchs defeated the Knights 3-1.  Methodist improves to 4-0 overall, while Southern Virginia falls to 0-8.  release

SCHAUMBURG, IL-  The Methodist baseball team has sent many former players to professional leagues around the country and should have three alumni on active rosters this season.  Dave Hoffman has been traded to the Schaumburg Flyers that compete in the Northern League, a Midwest independent baseball league.  release
