March 22, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs scored the first run in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they went on to defeat Lawrence University 7-0 Thursday night. Methodist moves to 16-7 overall while Lawrence falls to 0-7 this season. Senior Jonathan Spivey stole third base in the bottom of the first inning and scored on the throw to third. In the second inning, the Monarchs scored three runs on just one hit. Freshman Seth Kivett drove in sophomore Dustin Proctor with a RBI single to right centerfield. Sophomore Brad Davis walked to start the third inning and freshman Brian Halpin hit a double to move Davis to third. Davis and Halpin both scored on wild pitches. The Monarhs scored their final run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Spivey hit a double down the right field line and senior Matt Hunt singled through the middle to score Spivey. Sophomore Elliott Bisplinghoff started on the mound and pitched the first three innings while freshman AJ Vedrani picked up the win with three innings of work. Junior Robert Kisiah, sophomore Kevin Branch, and Kivett each pitched an inning to preserve the shutout. The Monarchs will travel to Christopher Newport this weekend to play the Captains on Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. |
