Lynchburg Defeats Methodist 8-4

Senior Kyle Eudy hit 2-for-3 with two runs scored

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Monarchs scored first but Lynchburg took over late to win 8-4 on Monday afternoon. Methodist moves to 23-12-1 overall while Lynchburg is 26-9 this season.

Senior Kyle Eudy singled in the second inning and moved to second on a balk. A single to right field from junior Brad Davis allowed Eudy to score the first run of the game. The Hornets came back and took the lead in the bottom of the inning with two runs on three hits. Lynchburg led 3-1 after the third inning on two more hits. Eudy came back to the plate and hit a double down the right field line in the fourth inning and back-to-back walks to senior Michael Carter and Davis loaded the bases. Sophomore Brian Halpin hit a double to left field for Eudy and Carter to score, but Davis was caught in a rundown. Junior Mike Twichell followed up with a single to center to score Halpin for Methodist to take the 4-3 advantage.

Lynchburg tied the game at four in the sixth inning after a leadoff double in the sixth and the runner scored on a fielder's choice. The Hornets took the lead in the seventh on an unearned run off of a double to left center. They extended their lead in the eighth after capitalizing on another Methodist error and stringing together four hits for three runs.

The Monarchs pitched by committee with seven pitchers spending time on the mound while freshman Jacob Evans took the loss. Freshman Jason Ridenhour pitched a scoreless inning giving up just one hit with two strikeouts. Lynchburg's Spencer Garrett picked up the win.

The Monarchs will face fifth seeded Shenandoah on Thursday at 9:30 am in Burlington, NC for the first game of the USA South Tournament.
