Bishops Come Back to Defeat Methodist 4-1
Senior Matt Hunt finishes with two hits in the loss

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The tables turned on Sunday as the Monarchs scored first, but North Carolina Wesleyan rode a four-run sixth inning to take the 4-1 win.  Methodist falls to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the USA South, while NC Wesleyan moves to 12-4 this season and 3-1 in the conference.

Junior Scott Russell reached first on an error in the bottom of the second inning before sophomore Dustin Proctor advanced him to second on a single to center field.  Sophomore Brad Davis' sacrifice bunt moved Proctor and Russell to second and third respectively before freshman Seth Kivett's fly to right scored Russell.

Junior pitcher Chris Toth held the Bishops scoreless through the first five innings only giving up three hits.  Matt Smith and Mark Wooten got things going for Wesleyan in the top of the sixth with singles through the right side.  Smith advanced to third on Wooten's single and catcher Chris Master's scored Smith.  The Monarchs struggled defensively committing three errors to score three unearned runs in the inning and give the Bishops the 4-1 lead.

The Monarchs had runners on second and third in the eighth and bases loaded in the ninth, but couldn't convert another run.  NC Wesleyan closed out with the 4-1 win.  Ben Pearson pitched the complete game for the Bishops with eight strikeouts and seven hits.

Methodist will host Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday at 6 pm.
