May 6, 2008 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist was down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the third but came from behind to win 16-6 over the 11th ranked Piedmont Lions. The Monarchs move to 28-15-1 overall while Piedmont is 33-12 this season. Piedmont took an early 1-0 lead after second baseman Cole Spedale drew the walk, stole second and scored on third baseman Andrew House's single to the gap in left center. The Lions went up 6-0 after scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the third, capped off by a ground rule double by catcher Corey Lindsey. Methodist came back in the bottom of the inning after a lead off single from second baseman Brian Inghram. Two fly outs set up a double to the fence in left field for shortstop Scott Russell to score Inghram. Third baseman Seth Kivett followed up with a double to score Russell. Methodist kept things going in the sixth when Kivett drew the lead off walk. He was out on left fielder Kenly Locklear's fielder's choice, but Locklear moved to third on right fielder Brad Davis' double down the right field line. Catcher Dustin Proctor loaded the bases with a walk and first baseman Kyle Eudy's walk brought Locklear home for the Monarchs' third run of the game. All runners advanced on a passed ball for Davis to score. Inghram singled to center scoring Proctor, and then stole second. Halpin grounded out, but runners moved up with Eudy scoring the tying run. Center fielder Tripp Lancaster singled to second for Inghram to give the Monarchs a 7-6 lead. In the eighth inning, Inghram got Methodist going with a single and Halpin reached on an error. Russell drew the two-out walk to load the bases and Kivett singled up the middle to score Inghram and Halpin. Locklear came right back with a single up the middle to score Russell and Kivett. Davis reached on an error to set up a three-run home run by Proctor. Eudy and Blake Newsome continued the hitting with back-to-back singles and Halpin's double to right center scored Eudy. Lancaster singled up the middle to score Newsome for the Monarchs to take the 16-6 win. Elliott Bisplinghoff had the start on the mound for Methodist and went 2.2 innings with six strikeouts while scattering four hits. Fred Geisinger earned the win going 6.1 innings with three hits and no runs allowed. The Monarchs will await the NCAA selection on May 11 with hopes of receiving a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
