Monarchs Win 3-2 Over Tufts University
Freshman Seth Kivett scores game-winning run on a wild pitch

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Tufts scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take the early lead, but the Monarchs tied the game in the bottom of the inning and took the lead in the fifth inning.  Methodist moves to 15-7 overall while Tufts falls to 3-3 this season.

The Jumbos put together three hits in the second inning including a triple by catcher Chris Decembrele to take a 2-0 lead.  Methodist came back in the bottom of the inning when junior Scott Russell led off with a bunt single.  Freshman Brian Halpin's groundout moved Russell to second and sophomore Philip Betterly singled to score Russell.  Betterly moved to second on the throw home and a double by senior Jonathan Spivey scored Betterly to tie the game.

With the game still tied at two going into the bottom of the fifth, freshman Seth Kivett led off with a double deep in centerfield.  Junior Kyle Eudy's sacrifice bunt moved Kivett to third and Kivett was able to score on a wild pitch for the eventual game-winning run.

Freshman Landon Jordan pitched seven innings for the win while freshman Fred Geisinger finished the game for the save.

The Monarchs will host Lawrence University at 7 pm on Thursday.
