BURLINGTON, NC –In the bottom of the 11th inning, Gabe Moncada drew a walk with one out. Jason Butterworth then hit a walk-off double into right field, that was just deep enough to allow Moncada to score, giving Ferrum the 4-3 victory at Burlington Athletic Stadium on Friday.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Panthers (9-20) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Kevin Marshall singled to left field, and then Eric Harrell reached on a fielding error by the Cougars (14-22), moving to second and allowing Marshall to reach third. Michael Nolte then smacked a single through the right side allowing both runners to score.

The Cougars tied the score in the top of the seventh inning. Justin Brown led off the inning by reaching on a Ferrum error. He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ahmed Shelton and a wild pitch, and then scored when Brad Turner hit a long sacrifice fly to right

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Ferrum untied the 2-2 knot when Marshall hit a solo home-run to right-center field. Averett answered immediately again in the top of the ninth inning, tying the score again, at 3-3.

Ahmed Shelton reached after being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third base on a groundout from Michael Moore, and scored on a sharply hit double from Jay Robinson to right field. The last Cougar run wasn’t enough however, as Ferrum scored the final run in the 11th, winning 4-3.
