Monarchs Defeat Virginia Wesleyan 6-2
Sophomore Dustin Proctor hits 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA— Methodist struck early with five runs in the second inning to set the tone for a 6-2 win over the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins.  Methodist improves to 22-8 overall while Virginia Wesleyan drops to 16-10.

After coming up empty in the first inning, the Monarchs came out swinging in the top of the second inning.  Junior Scott Russell got things started with a single to right field.  Sophomore Brad Davis' single along with help from a defensive error moved Russell to third.  Freshman Brian Halpin walked to load the bases when sophomore Dustin Proctor singled to center scoring both Russell and Davis for the 2-0 lead.  Senior Matt Hunt walked to load the bases once again and junior Michael Carter hit a double to left field scoring Halpin and Proctor.  A groundout by freshman Kivett scored the fifth run of the game.

The Marlins scored a run in the fifth and the sixth innings, but the Monarchs capped the scoring in the seventh inning when sophomore Billy Quinn hit a RBI single to score Hunt.

Sophomore Elliott Bisplinghoff went eight innings for the win only allowing one earned run on five hits.  Freshman Fred Geisinger pitched the final inning in relief.

The Monarchs will finish USA South Conference play at Shenandoah this weekend with a game on Friday at 2 pm (* Please note time change) and Saturday at 1 pm.
