March 13, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Monarchs took a 2-1 run lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they went on to defeat the Villa Julie Mustangs 14-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Methodist improves to 12-5 overall while Villa Julie falls to 1-3 this season. Sophomore pitcher Elliott Bisplinghoff earns the win pitching six innings while only giving up one run on six hits. Sophomore first baseman Billy Quinn's single in the bottom of the first inning scored the first two runs for the Monarchs and turned out to be enough for the win. The Monarchs came back and scored three runs in the second on four hits including a 2-run single to right field by freshman Seth Kivett. During the fourth inning, Methodist scored two runs on another single by Kivett. Kivett followed things up with a home run in the fifth after senior Jonathan Spivey hit a triple deep to right center to score two runs. The Monarchs held a 12-1 lead going into the seventh inning when Quinn hit his own home run over the fence in centerfield to score the final two runs. The Monarchs will take the road this weekend beginning with a game at Rhodes on Friday at 1 pm. |
