October 10, 2007 FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Methodist hosted Fayetteville State men and women as well as the N.C. Wesleyan women in a cross country meet on Wednesday. The Monarchs won both the men's and women's races with freshman Travis Fulp winning top individual honors in the men's race. The top five Methodist men all placed in the top six overall with Fulp pacing the team with a time of 19:12. Sophomore Chase Pattillo came in second in 20:05 while junior Hiroki Usui finished fourth in 21:28. Sophomore Spencer Hensley finished fifth in 21:56 and freshman Jay Harris ran the race in 21:59 to finish sixth overall. The Monarchs' 18 points topped Fayetteville State with 46 overall. Denise Lewis of Fayetteville State finished first for the women, but the Methodist women followed with the five finishers. Senior Krystal Patton ran a 22:32 with junior Diane Doroftei finishing in 22:59. Freshman Kristy Zeiler ran the race in 24:03. Sophomore Jen Kiner was right behind her in 24:06 with freshman Kaitlin Flaherty earning the final scoring spot in 24:42. The women's score of 20 topped Fayetteville State's 43 and N.C. Wesleyan's 74 to finish first overall. The Monarchs will compete in the USA South Athletic Conference Championship meet Oct. 27.
