Nasiro-Sigo wins second straight USA South men’s cross country
championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Make it
two straight USA South Athletic Conference men’s cross country
championships for Husein Nasiro-Sigo.
The Methodist sophomore from Koffela, Ethiopia won his second
consecutive USA South Athletic Conference men’s individual
championship on Saturday at Hagan Stone Park. Nasiro-Sigo
becomes the first ever Methodist runner to win consecutive
conference titles.
Nasiro-Sigo finished the 8K event in 26:02 minutes. He finished
25 seconds ahead of Christopher Newport’s David Barham, 29
seconds ahead of Christopher Newport’s Daniel Swale, 41 seconds
ahead of Greensboro’s Michael Barnard and 47 seconds in front of
Greensboro’s Doug Holbrook.
As a team, Methodist finished third with 79 points, while
Christopher Newport won the team title with 26 points and
Greensboro was second with 52 points. In addition to Nasiro-Sigo,
Ryan Taylor finished 17th in 31:53, while William Helm finished
22nd in 35:28, Adonis Stanley placed 23rd in 37:23 and Mlungisi
Ndwandwe finished 24th in 37:44.
In the women’s race, Krystal Patton finished an impressive ninth
overall in 26:47 in the 5K event.
