Monarchs’ Roncketti, Lawrence, Breen selected CoSIDA Academic All-District

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. –
Throughout the 2005 season, Chris Roncketti, Daryl Lawrence and Rhyan Breen have made headwaves on the football field for the Methodist Monarchs. On Monday, the trio was honored for their accomplishments off the field.

Roncketti, Lawrence and Breen were each selected to the first team CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District 3 for the College Division. By being selected first team Academic All-District, Roncketti, Lawrence and Breen are now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-American, which will be released next month.

The team was selected by the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA sports information directors from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Roncketti, a 6-foot, 197-pound senior quarterback from Hope Mills, N.C., had a banner season in 2005 for the Monarchs. He led the USA South Athletic Conference in passing, completing 141-for-241 passes for 2,234 yards with 15 touchdown passes. Roncketti became the first quarterback ever at Methodist to eclipse 2,000 yards passing in a season. He also set Methodist single-game marks for pass completions and passing yards twice.

In addition, Roncketti also gained 480 yards rushing on 82 carries with 14 touchdowns rushing. In the classroom, the organizational communications and leadership major sports a 3.47 grade-point average and will be commissioned as an officer in United States Army upon graduation.

Lawrence, a 6-0, 222-pound sophomore inside linebacker from Jacksonville, N.C., led the Monarchs defensively this season with 86 total tackles, including 35 solo tackles. In addition, he also had 7.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks. Lawrence ranked fifth in the USA South this season in tackles.

A computer science major, Lawrence currently has a 3.74 grade-point average.

Breen, a 6-0, 269 sophomore offensive guard from Wilson, N.C., helped anchor one of the top offensive lines in the USA South. Breen was a part of Methodist offensive line that paved the way for a record-setting season for the Monarchs with 4.298 yards of total offense – 2,230 yards passing and 2,068 yards rushing. In addition, Methodist led the USA South for a fourth straight season in fewest quarterback sacks allowed.

A political science major, Breen sports an impressive 3.98 grade-point average.
