Monarchs Fall to Greensboro 17-13
Senior Chris Gauntlett leads the team with 11 tackles and one interception

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-  The Monarchs were hoping to gain a win in their last home game in the 2006 season, but Greensboro put a stop to things early defeating Methodist 17-13.  The Monarchs fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the USA South while Greensboro moves to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the USA South.

In the middle of the first quarter, Greensboro received the ball on their own 49-yard line and Rod Hill had a 12-yard return to reach the Methodist 39 yard line.  The Pride continued to advance further into Monarch territory recovering their own fumble to keep the ball and only lose 3 yards.  Torrey Lowe found some space for a 12-yard run to the Methodist 17-yard line.  Quarterback Calvin Bacon ran for a yard before he found Lowe for a pass completion and the touchdown.  Chris Palme's extra point was good to give the Pride the early 7-0 lead.  Nearing the end of the first quarter, Bacon fumbled again, but Monarch Eric Wilson recovered to give the Monarchs the ball on Greensboro's 13-yard line.  Mike Hill ran for 9 yards on three plays to end the first quarter.  The second quarter started with Parks picking up a couple yards before Hill finished things off with a 2-yard touchdown run.  Larkin's kick tied the game at 7-7.  On Greensboro's next possession, Bacon had two big passes to score a second touchdown and regain the lead 14-7.

The Pride were going for another touchdown on their next possession, but an incomplete pass by Bacon intended for Tyrelle Lee was broken up by Monarch Nevin Rayford to force the field goal.  Palme's 43-yard kick was good and the half would end with Greensboro leading 17-7.  Monarch quarterback Brandon Parks threw for 100 yards, but Greensboro was able to capitalize on 3 interceptions.  The third quarter came and went without either team scoring.  In the fourth quarter, Greensboro had the ball on their own 19 yard-line when Allen Williams fumble was forced by Monarch John Northern and recovered by Daryl Lawrence to give the ball back to Methodist.  Mike Hill picked up a yard before Parks found a hold for an 18-yard touchdown run.  The Monarchs pass attempt for a 2-point conversion failed but the Monarchs came within four, down 17-13.  The Monarchs would have one more possession reaching the Greensboro 36-yard line, but were unable to convert.  Greensboro took over and the clock ran out giving them their second conference win this season.

Brandon Parks finished 9-21 passing with 50 yards running.  Mike Hill was held to 38 yards rushing.  Senior Chuck Howard led the receivers with 3 catches for 37 yards.

The Monarchs will travel to Shenandoah next Saturday to play at 1 pm.
